Areas of Practice

Transformational Coaching

Is your to-do list of dreams longer than the time you have to fulfill them?  Are you uncertain about making an important decision? Are you having difficulty navigating new life terrain?  You tell me what you want to work on and achieve and I help facilitate your learning, growth, and specific progress towards your goals and aspirations.  You set the measure in which you hope to achieve, you set the actions, you designate the accountability and I support your reflection, growth, and forward movement.  If you are open and ready for coaching, you will unearth new ways of looking at things that will inform your future direction.  Here are just some examples of things we can work on together.

  • “I’m thinking about switching careers, but not sure where to start.”

  • “I feel like I have a list of incomplete projects and I want to feel motivated to make progress.”

  • “I have an idea that I know will improve my life, but I cannot seem to get out of my own way to make it a reality”

  • “I want to prioritize my time differently and need some support and accountability to reach my potential.”

  • “I am feeling listless and want to feel more present in my daily life.”

  • “I want to reframe my relationship with a loved one.”

College Coaching

College is an incredibly significant financial and time investment so it is important you get a return on your experience.  I have worked in undergraduate student support for 16 years at some of the top public and private universities in the US.  I have a keen understanding of how colleges work and the college environment for students.  Every individual experiences college differently and college coaching is helpful as you work to navigate going to college and the decisions you have to make while you are there.  Here are just some scenarios where college coaching might be helpful.

  • “I got in - what college is right for me?”  Congratulations on your acceptance!  Now you have to decide where you are going and every college that admitted you wants you to be their student!  Colleges want to “yield” your deposit.  Keep in mind colleges are ranked in part on the percentage of students they admit and say yes to their offer.  But only you know your recipe for success.

  • “Is college for me right now?” Are you thinking about taking a gap year?  A gap year is opting to take time between high school and college enrollment.  Might you be considering taking some time off since you are already enrolled in your college coursework?

  • “I’m in college, now what?”  Maybe college is not what you were expecting or you want to create a more specific shape to your undergraduate experience.

  • “I’m going to college, but nervous about doing it right!”  College costs time and money so you certainly want to be prepared while also keeping an open mind to take advantage of opportunities you never imagined.

  • “I tried college, it didn’t work, but I think I need a degree.”  College is tough and don’t let anyone tell you differently.   It is challenging academically and intellectually, but organizationally, socially, and psychologically.  Maybe you had a hard time focusing, making academic progress, or a life event inhibited your progress.  Now you want to revisit how to make progress towards your degree.

  • “I started at a community college, but I think I want to transfer to a 4-year college.”  Transferring can be a confusing and stressful time as you are working to stay on top of college coursework while applying to 4 year schools.

Dissertation Coaching

The dissertation is the last leg of the doctoral journey and can be completed in many different ways.  Is it your first work as a scholar or your last assignment as a student?  Dissertation coaching is designed to help you work through a Ph.D or Ed.D program efficiently and intentionally. Whatever your academic focus, a dissertation coach can support your completion and champion your accomplishments along the way.  Here are just some realities where dissertation coaching might be useful.

  • “I want my dissertation to be perfect, but also work towards timely graduation.  How do I reconcile my perfectionism with degree completion?”

  • “I have lots of competing priorities (loved ones, career, my health, etc.) and need to carve out time to complete my dissertation.”

  • “I know what I need to do, but I just struggle to get myself to make progress.”

  • “I am making progress and want to ensure I maintain my momentum.”

  • “I feel guilty each time I am having fun and not working on my dissertation. How do I sustain what I love in life while making degree progress?”

  • “The dissertation seems so vast, where do I even start?”

  • “Each time I make progress, I start to feel like an imposture and feel like I need to start over.”
